Most manufacturers guarantee 70% State of Health (SoH) retention for 8 Years or 100,000 Miles (160,000 km). Understand the fine print before you file a claim.

Tesla Warranty Matrix

Tesla's warranty depends on your specific vehicle trim. The retention threshold is strictly 70%.

  • Model 3 RWD (LFP) 8 Yrs / 100k Miles
  • Model 3/Y Long Range 8 Yrs / 120k Miles
  • Model S/X 8 Yrs / 150k Miles

⚠️ Void Conditions

Tesla is notoriously strict. Your warranty may be voided if:

  • The vehicle was used for towing without the official tow package.
  • High-voltage components were opened by a non-certified shop.
  • Salvage title status (Total Loss).

VW / Audi / Skoda (MEB)

Net vs. Gross Capacity

VW warranties cover 70% of the NET (Usable) Capacity, not the gross capacity. For an ID.4 (82kWh Gross / 77kWh Net), the warranty trigger is ~53.9kWh usable remaining.

Standard Policy:

8 Years 100k Miles (160k km)

Hyundai / Kia (E-GMP)

Known for the "10-Year/100,000 Mile" powertrain warranty, but the Battery Capacity Warranty often differs specifically regarding degradation percentages.

How to File a Successful Claim

Dealerships often rely on simple OBD-II checks that may not show true cell balancing issues. Here is the protocol to prove your case.

1

Independent Scan

Get a verified 3rd party SoH report using tools like Recurrent or Aviloo (EU) to establish a baseline before visiting the dealer.

2

The "Deep Discharge"

Drive the car from 100% down to 5% in a single day. This forces the BMS to recalculate total usable kWh accurately.

3

Formal Ticket

Open a formal service ticket stating "Range is below 70% of EPA rating." Do not just say "range is low." Use specific percentage terms.
